Turbulence (Msc. Applied Physics program)
In this course, the students will be introduced to the phenomenon of turbulence as a complex system. Topics that will be discussed are: Navier-Stokes equation, hydrodynamical instabilities, routes to chaos, transition to turbulence, statistical desciption of turbulent flow, Rayleigh-Bénard convection, Boussinesq equation, potential flows, mean flow equations, free shear flow, fully developed turbulence, Kolmogorov's theory of turbulence, intermittency, boundary layer theory, numerical flow simulations.
