Turbulence coherence in wind farms

Y. Liu, R.J.A.M. Stevens, J. Phys. Conf. Ser., 2767, 092108 (2024).

Main finding

Strong bounded evidence that turbine operating state matters for coherence in this LES; not a universal corrected coherence law.

Turbulence coherence magnitude and phase in a wind farm at fixed thrust coefficient
How to read the figure. Coherence magnitude and phase of the velocity fluctuations through a wind farm with every turbine held at a constant thrust coefficient of 0.8. Figure 6 shows the same panels for turbines under normal operation, and the difference between the two is the evidence that operating state changes coherence - neither figure carries it alone. The result is bounded to this simulation; it is not a corrected coherence law. Open the full-resolution figure. Figure 8. Y. Liu and R.J.A.M. Stevens (2024). Why this matters

Turbine operating state changes the frequency-dependent coherence of velocity, thrust, and power fluctuations in the simulated wind farm.
